It Was A Murder Mystery
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Public Library continued its summer programs by hosting “Murder Mystery”.
The program was for teens who had completed grades 6 to 12, and was the 3rd week of programming by the library and librarian Linda Fox. The activity is put on just for the “pure fun” of it says Fox. “It’s pure fun because libraries are fun places for teens to come.”
“Our program encourages them to read. Once they are here, it’s like a candy shop. They will get a book and read a book.” Fox then says that if the emphasis is on fun, along with the activities that teens would like, “then the books will follow”.
Fox is pretty familiar with most of the youth that were there Tuesday night. She has spent her life encouraging reading to the youth of Oskaloosa and continues to enjoy her role of helping to bring kids and books together yet today.
Fox said that the turn out has been good so far. The planning and brainstorming was a collaboration between Fox and the Teen Advisory Board, “it’s fun things for teens to do.”
‘Own The Night’ has been the overall theme of the month long program. The first week the group took a ‘creepy cemetery walk’, followed up the next week by a ‘Titanic Party’, “and it was absolutely wonderful,” Fox said.
The final program will be a pool party at the Edmundson Pool next Tuesday and will be for the same age group of teens. In order to attend, a youth only has to be registered in the summer reading program, and then the swimming is free. Swimming is from 7 to 9 pm.
