Oskaloosa. Irene Adams, 92, of Oskaloosa died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Tuesday, April 23, 1918, at Lacey, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Lelah Randels LaRue. She graduated from the Lacey High School with the class of 1936. On January 6, 1938, she was united in marriage to John Adams and he died in 1955. Together John and Irene farmed until they moved to Oskaloosa in 1955. After moving to town, Irene worked at Downing Coffee Shop, Gene Morris’ Radio and TV and DuPree Construction. On November 3, 1962, she was united in marriage to Loren Adams and he died August 17, 1996. She loved gardening, sewing, canning, reading and delighted in spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Her family includes her 5 daughters: Donna Rea of Colona, Illinois, Janice (& Ron) Katko of Eddyville, Deann (& Jim) Harsh of Surprise, Arizona, Twyla Pool of Colona, Illinois and Dixie (& Jim) Miller of Gilbert, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands: John Adams and Loren Adams; a son: Donald Adams and 3 brothers: Okley, Howard and Floyd LaRue.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Rick Bunnell officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until service time. The family will be present from 10 a.m. until service time to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers memorials may be giving to Mahaska Hospice or Hospice Serenity House.
