Iowa e-Health Plan Receives Federal Approval

Federal okay releases $8.3 million in funding over four years

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has received notice that the Iowa e-Health Strategic and Operational Plan has been approved by the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. This releases $8,375,000 in funding over the next four years to implement a health information exchange (HIE) in Iowa.

“The mission of Iowa e-Health is to improve health care quality, safety, and efficiency,” said Iowa e-Health Executive Director Kim Norby. “The goal is to begin implementing the HIE this year, which will allow health care providers the ability to access vital patient information where and when it’s needed.”

The Iowa HIE will be the hub that enables the secure exchange of health information among providers, with the patients’ permission.

The Iowa e-Health Strategic and Operational Plan was developed by IDPH in conjunction with the e-Health Executive Committee and Advisory Council as part of a public and private collaboration.

The Iowa e-Health Strategic and Operational Plan and other information and resources are available at www.IowaeHealth.org.
