Indians Dominate The Demons

by Jodi Steinlage

The girls’ soccer team enjoyed some warmer weather, but with that came the wind!! It what would be another night of having to adjust to the wind element, the Oskaloosa girls were able to dominate much of the game and take the victory 5-0. The win moves the Indians record to 5-3.

The Indians got off to a fast start with goals by Mary Nelson (assist Aleeya Cheney) less than 2 minutes into the game and Kinsey Cook (assist to Kirby Nelson) in the 6th minute. The shots and opportunities would keep coming with ease, but finding the back of the net wouldn’t be as easy. Cheney would extend the lead to 3-0 in the 22nd minute and that score would remain going into half.

“We had lots of scoring chances in the 1st half with the wind, but we struggled with finishing and the aggressiveness of their goalie hindered our ability to finish.”

The 2nd half would find the Indians playing into a very strong head wind, but would continue to control much of the game. The intensity of the girls would also pick up and the control of the soccer ball was much better. Mary Nelson and Cook would add two more goals in the 2nd half. The defense would snuff out any scoring chances early and Washington would only have 1 real opportunity off a free kick.

“As a team, we had lots of chances to score, but really struggled with our finishing. As a team, we need to figure out how to come out with the same intensity for every game. Overall, with the very windy conditions and first real warm weather game, we did what we need to do and will take a 5-0 win any day!”

The team is back in action on Thursday at Fairfield. The Varsity will play first at 5:30 with JV to follow.
