Iden “Ike” Dunsmoor, 82, of Albia, and formerly of Chariton and Oskaloosa, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Oakwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Albia.

Ike was born June 6, 1930, in Mahaska County, the son of George Arthur and Ruth Irene Halliburton Dunsmoor. He graduated from Rock Island (IL) High School with the class of 1948. Early in life he worked on area farms, as well as his family farm near Fremont, Iowa. On June 24, 1950, he was united in marriage to Pauline Hanger at Chicago, Illinois. Ike worked as a Woolworth and Co. store manager in Chicago. He moved back to Iowa and helped open shoe stores for the Hill Brothers and National Bellas Hess Dry Goods Stores in conjunction with Hill Brothers. He became a store manager in two weeks, and no other store manager ever topped him in store sales. Throughout the years he owned and operated “5-D’s” Market in Milan, Illinois. He later worked at Supersweet in Oskaloosa. Ike worked for the railroad for a brief time. They lived in Salem, Missouri and operated a ceramics business. During that time Ike worked for the U.S. Forest Service reading topographical maps. They moved to Chariton in 1999, and to Oskaloosa in 2010. He enjoyed doing art work and working in his flower garden.

His family includes his wife of over 62 years, Pauline Dunsmoor of Albia; four children, Shelley (& Michael) Carr of Eddyville, Cindy (& Gary) Beavers of Shawnee, Kansas, Iden Dunsmoor of Oskaloosa, and Ross (& Conni) Dunsmoor of North Hollywood, California; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a brother, Larry (& Jewel) Dunsmoor.

He was preceded in death by parents; a brother, Art Dunsmoor; a grandson, Charles Carr; and a great granddaughter, Cassidy Dunsmoor.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 6 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. As was Ike’s wish his body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Tuesday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be present Tuesday from 4 p.m. until service time to greet friends and relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Disease Association.
