Grinnell’s Tibatemwa breaks Ugandan national record at Commonwealth Games

GOLD COAST, Queensland, Australia – Grinnell College swimmer Elisha Tibatemwa ’21 set the Ugandan national record in the 50-meter butterfly today while competing at the Commonwealth Games.

Tibatemwa finished second in his heat with a clocking of 27.17 at the Optus Aquatic Center, easily beating the national record of 28.57. He placed 43rd overall in the event.

Tibatemwa will compete in the 50 freestyle next Monday.
