Grinnell Tops Girls Soccer

Oskaloosa Indians

The Oskaloosa Girls’ soccer team was in action last night against the Grinnell Tigers. It would be a back and forth battle that unfortunately the Indians would lose at the final whistle with a score of 2-3.

The Indians (1-1) would strike first with a goal by Mary Nelson (assist Kirby Nelson) just 3 minutes into the game. However, the offense couldn’t find the back of the net the rest of the 1st half and the team would give up 2 goals to be behind 1-2 at the break.

The Tigers would again find the back of the net in the 2nd half to take a 3-1 lead before the Indians finally found their footings. Mary Nelson would finish a long pass from Paiven Knoot to bring the score to 2-3. The Indians would continue the pressure the last 20 minutes of the 2nd half, but were unable to find the back of the net.

“The 1st half we were playing into a pretty stiff wind, so to score first was a great way to start the game; however, we allowed Grinnell to be the aggressors for much of the game. We need to be more physical and not afraid to challenge someone for the ball. All 3 goals we gave up are things we can fix and the physicality of the game is something we can work on.”

“A 2nd straight win against Grinnell would have been nice, but we can learn lots from this game and move on and get ready for Knoxville on Friday and the rest of the season.”

The girls will be back in action on Friday against Knoxville with Varsity playing at 5:30! We would love to see a huge crowd out cheering us on!!!

Stats:

Kinsey Cook: 2 shots (1 on goal)
Aleeya Cheney: 4 shots (2 on goal)
Marry Nelson: 4 shots (2 on goal); 2 goals
Kirby Nelson: 1 assist
Paiven Knoot: 1 assist

Maddy Crile: 6 saves
