Gregory Walkup, age 56, of New Sharon, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on December 1, 1966, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Ervin and Judy (Meier) Walkup.
Greg graduated from West Marshall High School in State Center with the Class of 1985. Following high school, he attended college at Iowa State University.
On February 22, 2003, he was united in marriage to Christi Weyers at State Center.
Greg worked for Arnold Motor Supply for almost 30 years and was currently at the Grinnell Store. He also spent many years working on cars and tractors, painting, doing body work and mechanical work as an ASE Certified Mechanic.
Greg enjoyed golfing with his sons, finding bargains and working to re-sell them, collecting toy tractors, especially John Deere tractors. He always looked forward to watching Mecum Auctions and RFD Television as well as attending Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited Banquets and enjoyed helping out with Firefighter organizations.
Greg had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hanging out with his family and was the peanut gallery for answers on family game night.
His family includes his wife, Christi Walkup of New Sharon; his children: Brett (& Keasha) Walkup of New Sharon, Stephen Walkup of Pella, Kelsey Walkup of Des Moines and Brock Walkup of New Sharon; two sisters: Robin (& Doug) Hobbs of State Center and Jody (& Brian) Kunkel of Marshalltown; his mother and father-in-law, Keith and Sandy Weyers of Perry; a brother-in-law, Bret (& Linda) Weyers of Bouton; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mikey Walkup; and a sister-in-law, Kerry Weyers.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. with Greg’s family present to greet relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Greg Walkup Memorial Fund to be used to benefit multiple organizations.
