Green Wins 200 and 400 at Central

Pella–Gabriel Green (Sr., Anniston, Ala., Business Management) got his final collegiate outdoor season off to a rousing start as he paced the William Penn men’s track and field team at the Central Invitational Thursday.

The Statesmen placed eighth out of 11 teams with 32 points, while Northwestern won the title with 151 points.

Green scored more than half of the navy and gold points by winning the 200-meter dash in 22.29 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 50.15 seconds. The senior was also third in the 100-meter dash prelims, but did not compete in the finals.

Trevor Volz (So., Adel, Iowa, Applied Technology) had the next-best individual finish by placing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.28.

Seventh-place finishes came from Kederick Givens (Fr., Wylie, Texas, Communications) in the 200 (23.07 seconds), Bryndon Douglas (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) in the long jump (19-11), and from the 4×400-meter relay team (3:29.00).

Kalob Gist (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management), with a shot put of 42-0.75, and Colt Brumbaugh (Jr., Keswick, Iowa, Industrial Technology), with a javelin toss of 124-9, were both ninth in their respective events. Alex Edwards (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Secondary Education) (4:19.37 in the 1,500-meter run) and Van Love-Scott (So., Detroit, Mich., Education) (18-9 in the long jump) rounded out WPU’s top-ten performances by placing tenth Thursday.

Next: William Penn travels to Maryville, Mo. next Saturday to compete in the Northwest Missouri State Open.
