Green Dress Project gets a new home

Picking out the dress of your dreams is all part of the fun at the Green Dress Project

Picking out the dress of your dreams is all part of the fun at the Green Dress Project

The Green Dress Project was started in 2009 by William Penn University alumnae Joni Kelley (‘09) of Oskaloosa. It serves as a vehicle for slightly worn prom dresses to be donated for purchase. Formal dresses are seldom worn again, so in most cases these dresses have only been used for one magical evening. The William Penn University Alumni Association took over the Green Dress Project in 2010, and since that time the project has served hundreds of girls from all over southeast Iowa.

With all of the physical expansions taking place at William Penn University, storage space has become limited. Additionally, the Alumni Association will be focusing their efforts on networking opportunities and events. Therefore, the time has come for the Green Dress Project to find a new home. William Penn University is pleased to announce that the Klothes Kloset of the New Hope Community Center has agreed to take over the project. Tonya Rice, Manager of the Klothes Kloset will serve as organizer.

The New Hope Community Center has a great facility, and plans to create a Prom Room within the old Jefferson school building. Rice plans to host an Open House on Thursday, March 7, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 9, from 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Open house will be held at New Hope’s Klothes Kloset in the upper level of the old Jefferson school building.

If you have a dress you would like to donate, please contact Tonya Rice at 641-295-1837. A special thank you to Tonya and the New Hope Community Center for giving the Green Dress Project a new home!
