George Joins Qualifying Ranks, Seddon Breaks Record at Kansas
Lawrence, Kan.–Buoyed by the best competition they will likely face all year, several Statesmen track and field athletes came up with huge performances at the Kansas Relays Wednesday through Friday.
Earl George (Sr., Gaithersburg, Md., Biology) recorded 5,780 points in the decathlon, moving him into 11th place in the NAIA; the top 16 individuals at year’s end qualify for nationals. Derek Seddon (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) has already punched his ticket to nationals, but improved his mark in the discus with a new school record of 189-0, nearly throwing a foot longer than the previous record.
Derek Robinson (Jr., Jenks, Okla., Communications) was also in the top 10 in the discus, taking eighth at 155-4, while the 4×100-meter relay squad finished in eighth as well in 42.41 seconds.
