Oskaloosa – Beginning January 9, Family Medical Center (FMC) in Oskaloosa will add another mid-level provider to their staff. Excited about her new role at FMC, Diane Nutter may not be new to area residents and some patients as she had been running an independent medical clinic in New Sharon.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to a team environment,” said Nutter of her new position with FMC. “Even though it will be different from running my own clinic, and my daughter will miss dropping by my office, it’s a good move.”

Though she has been in New Sharon only three years, she has many years of experience in healthcare. She worked in Louistown, MO, in family practice for 11 years and was a student health nurse at Truman State (Missouri) for two years. Coming to New Sharon gave her an opportunity to get back to family practice and was an opportunity she “jumped on.”

“Keeping healthcare available to the community is important,” said Nutter. “I am not afraid to do house-calls, but that is considered an old-fashioned approach to seeing patients. I still believe, however, that when a patient needs to be seen, then I will do my best to make sure that works within the schedule. I have to admit, sticking to a schedule will probably be the toughest transition for me. I don’t want healthcare to be based upon schedules and time but I want to do what is best for my patients. ”

Nutter was born and raised in Missouri. Her passion for the medical field stems from her passion for the military medical show, “MASH” and originally wanted to be a MASH nurse. Though she did not enter the military, she did pursue nursing. She received a Bachelor of Science, Biology at Northeast Missouri State and then went on to get her Bachelor of Science, Nursing (Culver-Stockton College and Bessing-Rieman College of Nursing, Illinois), followed by a Master of Science, Nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate (Fort Hays State University, Kansas).

Outside of the office, Nutter coaches softball, basketball, and the New Sharon Rookies Little League team of 16 first to third grade girls. She has coached Montezuma basketball for a number of years and is involved in field medicine for the North Mahaska Football team. Nutter has been married to her husband, Rich, for 19 years, and they have an eight-year-old daughter, Rubi.

Family Medical Center is located at 410 North 12th Street. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Appointments can be made by calling 641.672.2571.
