Five Average Over 200 as WPU Finishes Seventh at LV Shootout

Las Vegas, Nev.–Strong depth guided the Statesmen men’s bowling team to a high finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shoot-Out Wednesday and Thursday.
WPU placed seventh out of 37 teams with 11,290 pins in six regular games and four sets of Bakers. Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) took the title with 12,445 pins, just 11 more than runner-up Webber International (Fla.).
Mitch Hupe of Wichita State (Kan.) was the best individual in the 243-player field, taking the qualifying crown with a 233.3 average (two pins ahead of second place).
Four members of the navy and gold averaged over 200 pins per game in qualifying, led by a 218.2 clip by Nick Walker (So., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management) to help him place 18th.
Stian Hoff (Sr., Orkanger, Norway, General Accounting), at 206.8, and Quincy Bruce (Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, General Accounting), at 201.0, also eclipsed the 200 mark in all six games.
Ryan Howard (Sr., King, N.C., Industrial Technology) managed a 201.0 average in four games, while Bret Keimig (Jr., Davenport, Iowa, Physical Education) was at 201.7 in three starts.
David Decker (Fr., Peyton, Colo., Physical Education) completed qualifying at 194.7 (three games), and Curtis Majka (Jr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) was at 188.5 (two games).
Just like it did two days earlier, the Statesmen JV squad led all six squads with a tally of 9,628 pins. Cody Adair (Sr., Kearns, Utah, Undecided) topped all junior varsity rollers with a 215.2 average, while Josh Kragh (Fr., Minot, N.D., General Accounting) also started all six rounds with a 196.2 clip.
Ryan Racimo (Sr. Olympia, Wash., Exercise Science) started four games (185.3), while the quartet of Rylie Reidel (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management) (199.0), Kyle Reese (Sr., Chicago, Ill., Psychology and Sociology) (183.7), Jason Forsyth (So., Weatherford, Texas, Psychology and Human Services) (180.0), and Josh Fane (Fr., Brownsville, Wis., Business Management and Accounting) (179.0) all competed in three games. Braxton Coble (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Business Management) rounded out the JV with an average of 172.5 in two starts.
Next Up: William Penn is off until January 21-22 when it travels to Addison, Ill. to compete in the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic.
