Fairfield Races Past Oskaloosa 63-22 in Girls Basketball

The Oskaloosa Girls basketball team knew they would have their hands full Tuesday night against Fairfield in a non-conference game. The 15th ranked Trojans didn’t disappoint, and ran away with a 63-22 win. The 3-1 Trojans came out in their full court zone press and forced Oskaloosa into numerous turnovers in the 1st quarter. The Indians had a lot of open shots in the 1st quarter, but just couldn’t get the shots to fall, as Fairfield built a 17-5 1st quarter lead. The Trojans would continue to build on their lead in the 2nd quarter behind Sr. Sami Fritz, who scored a team high 19 points for the Trojans, who lead 30-7 at halftime. Oskaloosa had their best quarter of the game in the 3rd, scoring 11 points.
Shallandra Shilling and Alexis Westercamp led Oskaloosa in both scoring and rebounding. Shilling scored 6 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, while Westercamp scored 5 points and pulled down a team high 9 rebounds. Marleigh Denberger chipped in 4 points and 5 rebounds for Oskaloosa.
The loss drops Oskaloosa to 1-1 on the year, while Fairfield improves to 3-1. The Indians are in action next at Pella Christian, Friday night. Tip off is set for 6:15pm in Pella.
