Elsie Swim, 101, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born January 1, 1922, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Fred and Etta Couch Krile.

Elsie attended school in Mahaska County.

On November 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to David Arnold Swim at Bisbee, Arizona. To this union three children were born, Barbara, Dean, and Ray.

Following their marriage and the birth of their children, Elsie stayed home to care for her family and home.

In May of 1977, David passed away after 35 years of marriage. Elsie was proud of the fact that she was able to stay in her own home until just 14 days ago.

Elsie was a member of the Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa. She had a kind and welcoming spirit; she was happy to provide a warm and loving atmosphere in her home for all of her family.

Her family includes her two sons, Dean Swim of Eddyville and Ray Swim of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Jodi (& Brian) Pollpeter, David Garber, and Jerry Jean (James) Cunningham; seven great grandchildren: Blake Lanphier, Austin Lanphier, Colter Lanphier, Matthew Garber, Makayla Garber, Levi Pearson, and Dakota Durst; two great great grandchildren: Levi Lanphier and Emmalyne Lanphier; many step grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara Jo Garber; a daughter in law, Nancy Swim; two brothers, James Krile and Carl Krile; two sisters, Joy Hatfield and Helen Knox.

Private family graveside funeral services and burial will be held in the Bluff Creek Cemetery the Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Calvary Bible Church in Oskaloosa.
