(Eleanor) Elaine Gordy, age 84, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born on March 28, 1938, in Oskaloosa the daughter of (Walter) Carl and Helen (Van Helten) Walker.

Elaine graduated from Eddyville High School with the Class of 1956.

On October 20, 1956, she was united in marriage to Larry Gordy in Eddyville.

Elaine worked as the executive secretary for the President of William Penn University for 27 years until retiring in 2000. During her time at William Penn, she was secretary for 5 different presidents.

Elaine was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa as well as a member of IO P.E.O. Chapter. She enjoyed traveling after her retirement and spent the last 16 winters in Arizona. Elaine also enjoyed reading, taking walks and following the Iowa Hawkeyes and William Penn Statesman sporting events.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Gordy of Oskaloosa; her children, Danny Gordy of Oskaloosa and Michael (& Lisa) Gordy of Bloomington, Indiana; a grandchild, Mitchell (& Jade) Gordy; a great granddaughter, Clarke Gordy; and a sister, Martha “Marilyn” Greenhalgh of Oskaloosa.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, at the Bates Funeral Chapel beginning after 12:00 p.m. with Elaine’s family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday evening to greet relatives and guests. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 10, at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Chad Lierman officiating.
Burial will take place after the service at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Memorials may be made to William Penn University.
