Donna Veenstra, 79, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. She was born July 12, 1933, in rural Wapello County, the daughter of Glen and Elsie Penniston Hall. Donna graduated from the Ottumwa High School with the class of 1952. On August 26, 1960, she was united in marriage to John Veenstra at Peoria, Iowa. Donna worked as a teller at Mahaska State Bank (now MidwestOne Bank) in Oskaloosa. She also managed a fabric store at the old ATPIC mall; worked as a bookkeeper for the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors; and kept the books for the Mahaska County Landfill. She retired in 2000. Donna was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa where she was active in Lydia’s Society and Bethel Bible Seachers. She enjoyed quilting and Southern Gospel Music; and she and John traveled all over going to music concerts. Donna helped start Birthright of Oskaloosa.

Her family includes her husband of over 52 years, John Veenstra of Oskaloosa; their three children, Michael (& Ruth) Veenstra of Oskaloosa, Alan Veenstra of Oskaloosa and Sandra (& Steve) Plate of Rose Hill; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Glen (& Betty) Hall, Jr. of Blakesburg and James Hall of Pleasant Hill; two sisters, Barb (& Kadell) Roorda of Lawrence, Kansas and Shirley (& Glen) Coplen of Oskaloosa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 siblings in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Dale Visser officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall of the church. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.

Memorials may be made to Birthright of Oskaloosa.
