Dolores Fynaardt, 94, of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Dorothy Dolores Fynaardt, daughter of John and Julia (Matejzel) Antolik, was born on August 17, 1929, in Woodhull, Illinois.

Dolores attended school in Woodhull through the 5th grade when the family moved to the Eddyville area to farm. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Eddyville High School in 1947.

Following her education, she was hired in the lab at Mahaska County Hospital.

On February 6, 1949, Dolores was united in marriage to Henry John Fynaardt at St. John Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa.

They made their home on the family farm near Eddyville. Dolores stayed home to help Henry with the farming and raise their three children. In her later years, Dolores was active as a hospice volunteer for ten years. She was a member of St John Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Ladies Guild.

Dolores is survived by her children: Dr. Stephen (Karen) Fynaardt of Torrance, CA, David (Carol) Fynaardt of Eddyville, and Julie (Dr. James) Barker of Boone, IA; grandchildren: Dr. Nathan (Maywan) Fynaardt of California, Daniel (Hailey) Fynaardt of New Orleans, LA, Andrew (Dr. Patty) Fynaardt of Placentia, CA, Jacob (Jennifer) Fynaardt of Eddyville, John (Emma) Fynaardt of Rogersville, MO, Sarah (Michael) Haluska of Albia, Michael Barker of Blue Springs, MO, Dr. Rachel (Mitchell) Gage of Waukee, IA; and great-grandchildren: Lily, Jeremy, Jackson, Ashlyn and, Henry Fynaardt, Poppy Fynaardt, Leigh and Reagan Haluska, and Scott Gage.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Fynaardt; a great-grandson, Cameron Haluska; a brother, John Edward Antolik and his wife, Darlene.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Sam Beltz officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m. in the church nursery. Burial will be in Pleasant Corners Cemetery near Eddyville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.; the family will greet visitors from 4-6 p.m. Memorials can be made to St. John Lutheran Church or the Mahaska Health Foundation for the Serenity House.
