February 23, 1937 – February 26, 2023
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 86

Dixie Lee Gibbons, 86, of Oskaloosa, died February 26, 2023. She was born in Oskaloosa, IA February 23, 1937, to Bernice Siefert Tarr and Floyd Tarr. One of nine children, Dixie grew up in the post-depression era which, as with most people, greatly affected her outlook on life.

After finishing 8th grade at Oskaloosa High School, Dixie lived a full life which included travel to Europe and Hawaii, as well as much of the Western United States. She spent most of her years in Oskaloosa with a few years in North Carolina, Kansas, Arizona and California.

Anyone who knew Dixie knew she had a quick wit and had a library full of one liners. She was sure to tell you her point of view without sugar coating it. Her ability to laugh at the situation as well as herself served her well through her 86 years.

Dixie enjoyed fishing, camping, baking and crochet. In her early years she relished travelling and seeing many of the world’s grandest locations.

Dixie had 5 children: Gary, Terry, Larrie, Tammy, and Loretta.

Dixie is survived by 4 of her children: Gary (& Pat) Gibbons of Oskaloosa, IA., Larrie (& Lisa) Jemison of Havana, FL, Dewayne (& Tammy) Jemison of Oskaloosa, IA, Loretta McCloud of Havana, FL.; 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren; and her brother, Don (Carla) Tarr of Oskaloosa, IA.

She was proceeded in death by her mother and father; seven siblings; and one son, Terry Gibbons.

A family graveside service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in the Old White Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
