Oskaloosa–The National Football League is now home to multiple William Penn players as former Statesmen star Nick DiMarco has signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

Following a mini-camp in which all current 90 players attended, the Ravens invited a few individuals, including DiMarco, for a tryout. The St. Charles, Mo. native, who recorded a school-record 13 sacks last fall, so greatly impressed the coaching staff that he was asked to sign the contract and report back on July 16 for Rookie Camp (returners report on July 24).

A first-team all-Midwest League performer and Third-Team All-American pick by Beyond Sports Network, DiMarco joins New York Jets defensive lineman Damon Harrison at the pro ranks. DiMarco, who played defensive end for the Statesmen, will be tried out at outside linebacker. In his final collegiate campaign, he tallied 55 tackles (26 for loss), broke up four passes, forced three fumbles (recovering two), and blocked three kicks.

“I had a very solid camp and some things fell into place as an outside linebacker from the 90-man roster failed his physical,” DiMarco said. “I was informed on the last day of camp that I was signing and taking a physical, which I passed, giving me the opportunity that so few have of actually attending training camp.”

“I am excited to continue training and getting to play football for a living right now,” DiMarco added. “There are obviously still a lot of cuts to be made before the regular season, but this is still a great start. I am extremely happy to be given this opportunity.”

The Baltimore Ravens training camp will be held in Owings Mills, Md.
