Dennis Skeels, 61, of Grimes and formerly of Oskaloosa died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born Friday, August 10, 1951 in Oskaloosa, the son of Leslie Earl and Ina Jean Macy Skeels. He graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1968. He later attended Missouri Southern State College and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. Dennis was united in marriage to Debbie Groet and they later divorced. He was then married to Janet Herrold and they later divorced. Dennis worked as an accountant for several years for the State of Iowa Department of Corrections and retired in 2006 so he could care for his mother. Dennis loved photography and traveling.

His family includes two daughters: Amy McDermott, and Melissa (& Gary) Pearson both of Newton; 5 grandchildren: Carter and Georgia McDermott and Cody, Elizabeth, and Christopher Pearson; two sisters: Shirley (& Wes) Blair of Ankeny, and Linda (& Chuck) Mountain of San Antonio, Texas; a brother: Michael (& Meliisa) Calef of Webb City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 6 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Brother Jeremy Smith officiating. As was his wish his body has been cremated and burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date. Visitation will be held Wednesday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present Wednesday from 4 p.m. until service time to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Research Society on Alcoholism.
