Eddyville, Iowa | Age 80

It is with profound sadness, yet a celebration of a life well-lived that we announce the passing of David Eugene Rouze, affectionately known as Gene, on March 24, 2024. Gene was born on December 26, 1943, to parents Merle and Ruth Rouze, in Bussey, Iowa.

Gene’s journey of life was filled with dedication, generosity, empathy, and loyalty, qualities that endeared him to everyone he encountered.

Gene was a proud graduate of Bloomfield High School’s class of 1962.

After high school, Gene found his calling as a draftsman at Garden and Associates. His dedication and precision were evident in every project he undertook, earning him respect and admiration from his colleagues.

However, his work did not define him; his heart was always with his family and his community. Gene’s involvement with the Eddyville Volunteer Fire Department was more than a duty; it was a passion for 50 years.

He enjoyed westerns, especially John Wayne. He was the rock of his family, taking the kids camping and boating, and never missing his kids & grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

Gene married the love of his life Linda Scott on August 30, 1969. Their marriage was a testament to his loyal and empathetic nature, creating a bond that was unshakeable.

Gene was a constant source of support, love, and comfort to his family. Gene was a generous soul, always ready to lend a hand, share a joke, or offer a comforting word. His departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Survivors include his wife Linda Rouze of Eddyville; children, Lisa (Jeff) Johnston of Promise City, Gina (Brent) Jackson of Eddyville; grandchildren, Nick (Kiley) Howell, Nadia Howell, Kinzey Johnston and Jantz Johnston, Novalee, Mallory and Maddox Jackson; one brother, Dean (Becky) Rouze of Arizona; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Carla) Scott, Rodney (Theresa) Scott, Mark Anderson and their families, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Ruth Rouze; sister, Lois Harvey; brother, Bob Rouze; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Wyota Scott; sister-in-law; Lori Anderson.

Please join us to celebrate Gene’s remarkable life.
