NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA—Central College associate head coach Jim Fuller has been tabbed the Division III national men’s assistant coach of the year for the indoor track and field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Qualifying two athletes into the heptathlon under Fuller’s tutelage, Central finished in a tie for ninth place at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. Sophomore Will Daniels (Geneseo, Ill.) became Central’s 33rd individual national champion in school history while Ryan Kruse (senior, St. Clair, Minn.) finished third. The duo are the fourth and fifth male athletes to earn All-American status in a combined event at Central since 2011. Daniels doubled up on All-American honors with a seventh-place performance in the high jump.

Fuller was earlier named the Central Region men’s assistant coach of the year. He’s the first Central coach to be given the honor since Guy Mosher in 2011, who was picked three times.

In his fifth year working with the Dutch multi-event athletes, Fuller has coached five Iowa Conference champions and 25 all-conference honorees across both genders. In his first season with the program in 2013, he helped Eric Larson to the NCAA Division III individual championships in the heptathlon (indoor) and decathlon (outdoor). Additionally, Larson finished sixth in the 2015 decathlon. Fuller also worked with high jumper Logan Mulford during his four All-American efforts between the 2016 and 2017 indoor and outdoor national meets.
