PELLA—Central College hung on to a spot in the NFCA Division III softball top 25 after a pair of doubleheader splits last week.

The Dutch (14-6) slipped from No. 15 to a tie for No. 23 after ending a 17-day layoff by splitting a non-conference twinbill with Grinnell College Wednesday and an Iowa Conference doubleheader with Coe College Friday. Coe is among those schools also receiving votes in the poll while league favorite Luther College (19-1) moved up to No. 5.

Sharing the 23rd position with the Dutch is Hope College (Mich.) (14-3), which is coached by 2003 Central grad and former team co-captain Mary Vande Hoef,

Wintry weather is playing havoc with this week’s schedule, which next sees the Dutch playing host to Simpson College Saturday in a league doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field. It will be the team’s alumni day and a 25th anniversary celebration of Central’s 1993 NCAA Division III championship. Members of the team will be recognized between games. Saturday’s action can be heard on KRLS (92.1 FM) with Trevor Castle with a video webcast and live stats available through athletics.central.edu.

A non-conference doubleheader with Monmouth College (Ill.), slated for Friday, is now set for April 30 at 3 p.m. at Pella.
