Betty Anthony Northcutt Emry, 85, of Martinsburg, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born March 10, 1925, at Haydock, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford J. and Nina B. Thomas Anthony. She attended school at Oskaloosa. Upon the death of their mother, Betty became a second mother to her brother and sister. As a teenager, she supported them by working at the old Continental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa, Iowa. In later years, she enjoyed working at the SIEDA Neighborhood Center in Sigourney, Iowa, as a receptionist. On June 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Clark Northcutt. They had four children: Randy, Gregory, Sheila, and Barbara. They later divorced. In March, 1964, Betty was united in marriage to Robert S. Emry. They later divorced. They had a daughter, Danyce “Dee”. Betty was a member of the Sigourney Christian Church, the Let’s Get Together Club of Taintor, Iowa, the Hedrick American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sigourney Ladies’ 10 Point Pitch Group. She enjoyed playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and crocheting. She will be remembered as an excellent seamstress and cook. She delighted in spending time with her family. Betty is survived by two sons: Randy E. (Bill Surbrug) Northcutt, of Searsboro, and Gregory C. (Becky) Northcutt, of Montezuma; three daughters: Sheila D. (John) Clubb of Sigourney, Barbara S. (Stanley) Echelberry of rural Hedrick, and Danyce “Dee” J. Emry, of Martinsburg; 10 grandchildren: Darcy McMillan, Joely Anderson, Robyn Agu, DeAnna Garber, Melissa Ogan, Heather Northcutt, Amy Clubb, Brandon Clubb, Shawn Echelberry, and Susie Deo; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clifford J. Anthony, of Payson, Arizona; a sister, Beatrice Watson, of Summerville, South Carolina; and both husbands.
