Art gala, auction to raise hope for survivors of violence

OSKALOOSA –Hope is on display in a multi-faceted April effort to support survivors of traumatic crimes.

Crisis Intervention Services launches its second annual “Raising Hope” online art auction on April 19, culminating with a gala on April 26. The events will raise money for survivors and raise awareness of sexual assault, domestic violence, and other violent crimes.

“We’re excited to offersome amazing art onlineand then bring together some wonderfulpeople in person,” said CIS Executive Director Sarah Champoux. “The gala will gatherart, music, food and supporters for the final hour of our auction.”

Art lovers can begin bidding at 1 p.m. April 19 at 32auctions.com/CISRH. Nearly 100 items will be available, including original paintings, ceramics, digital art, photographs, and quilts. The pieces are donated by local artists and creative folks across the U.S. and Canada.

“So many artists arethrilled to donate artbecause they believe in our mission of survivor-centered care,” Champoux said. “We face dark days with our clients, so the artists’ help truly inspires us!”

All art up for auction will be displayed at CIS, 212 N. I St. in Oskaloosa, on April 26. The gala, which starts at 6 p.m., will include food, dessert treats, information about CIS’ mission, and a jazz ensemble from William Penn University. CIS team members will assist any guests who need help joining in the bidding, which ends at 7 p.m. The gala concludes at 7:30 p.m.

Champoux hopes that people from across and beyond the agency’s 12-county service region will visit the auction website, come to the gala and learn more about CIS.

“We’re fortunate to have all this beautiful art to share,” Champoux said. “It’s another way to shine light on our mission and brighten the communities we serve.”
