Beginning Thursday February 15th, the 98th annual Iowa High School state wrestling tournament will begin in Des Moines. Wrestlers from every corner of the state – 672 to be exact- will compete for one of 8 medals in each weight class. The tournament doesn’t just bring in 284 schools, it brings in on average 74,000 fans who become extended cheer squads for their grappler.

PCM and Pekin have some of the best showings in the area with 6 and 5 wrestlers respectively. One of the area’s standouts is Albia’s Aden Reeves – the Junior phenom with a 46-0 record. Only 22 other wrestlers in the state can boast of an unbeaten season. In addition to that honor, Aden will go for his second straight title – along with just 16 other wrestlers.

Other area wrestlers competing over the next 3 days:

Albia;Ben Mason, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont ;Tyler Landgrebe, North Mahaska; Jerrett Stoghill, Sigourney Keota; Mason Dye and Kaleb Reeves, Knoxville; Coby Meyer and Chase Bellon, Pella; Ryan Hancock, Ottumwa; Joey Mitchell, PCM; Landon Fenton, Chase Shirk, Colby Tool, Wes Cummings, Lucas Roland and Jarron Trausch.
