Alice Fisher

Oskaloosa. Alice Mae Fisher, 86, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born October 22, 1924, in a farm house near Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Daisy Clevenger Miller. Early in life she did house cleaning for people in town. When she was old enough, she went to work at the old Continental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa. She was united in marriage to William Fisher, and later divorced. While raising her daughters, she did ironing for people and babysat in her home. Lastly she worked as a broiler cook at Bishop’s Buffett in Davenport, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She retired from there in the late 1970’s. She enjoyed: crocheting, fishing, gardening, doing puzzles, and watching baseball. She never lost her love for baking and cooking. She loved her pets, especially her dogs. She delighted in spending time with her family and playing board games with them. She had a lifelong love of teaching and mentoring people. Alice will be remembered as a very hard working independent and kind woman.

Her family includes her two daughters: Kathern Sewell of Clinton and Debora (& Robert) West of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, a son: James Lee Fisher; and five brothers: Everett, Paul, Wayne, Cecil, and Donald Miller.

Funeral services for Alice Fisher will be held Monday, February 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Sunday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Sunday afternoon from 4 –6 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House.
