WPU Places in Middle of Pack in Final Prep Before Conference

Kansas City, Mo.–The Statesmen men’s golf team hopes all of its poor rounds are now out of the way after experiencing a disappointing performance at the Virginia McCoy Intercollegiate hosted by Park Monday and Tuesday.

#24 William Penn finished fifth out of 10 teams with a two-day score of 627 (309-318) at The Deuce Golf Course, a par-70 track. Park hoisted the team hardware at 607 (303-304), while Noah Hofman of Southeast CC claimed the individual title at two-under 138 (68-70).

Sebastian Rulis (Sr., Helsingor, Denmark, Business Management) was his squad’s top linkster, placing fourth (out of 57 players) at 150 (76-74). Zach Swink (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Sociology), who posted a 152 (77-75), was in the top 10 as well in a tie for seventh.

Unfortunately, they were the lone Statesmen to end up in the top 20. Zachary Chegwidden (So., Essex, England, Business Management) was 27th at 162 (77-85), while Oscar Florez Martinez (Fr., Gignon, Spain, Business Management) was 28th at 163 (79-84). Frederik Lundsgaard (Sr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) rounded out the team scoring at 166 (81-85) to tie for 35th.

A trio of individuals were on the course as well with Peter Frederiksen (Sr., Hornslet, Denmark, Mechanical Engineering) (79-80) and Cade Hartman (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Business Management) (78-81) both tying for 20th at 159. Jordan Albert (So., Sigourney, Iowa, Biology) concluded his tournament in 43rd place at 173 (79-94).

Next Up: William Penn takes two weeks off before traveling to Galena, Ill. on April 30 and May 1 to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships. Play will be contested at Eagle Ridge Golf Course. The league champion will earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships in May.
