Morrissey receives national attention from NFCA

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Kayla Morrissey ’18 received national recognition after a huge week for the Grinnell College softball team.

Morrissey, a third baseman from Burr Ridge, Ill. (Lyons Township North), was named in the “Top Performances” list released by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in conjunction with the national Louisville Slugger/NFCA Players of the Week.

Morrissey’s hot bat helped the Pioneers go 5-1 during the week, including a win over nationally-ranked Central College. She hit .600, going 12-of-20 at the plate with seven doubles and a triple. She also had five RBIs and 11 runs scored while finding success on both stolen base attempts. Morrissey also has become Grinnell’s career leader in four categories – runs scored, hits, triples and total bases – and leaped into the Midwest Conference top 10 in career hits and triples.
