The Oskaloosa boys basketball team did some things that had not been done for quite a while Monday night in district play at Oskaloosa against Washington. First off, they are hosting districts by being the #2 seed in the substate, secondly, they won a district game beating Washington badly 81-46. The Indians jumped all over Washington early as Spencer Tucker continued his hot 3-point shooting, helping Oskaloosa to a 13-3 lead early in the 1st quarter.

The Demons top player, Jaivonn Willis did not start the game due to an ankle injury and Washington gave little resistance to the Indians. The game at times resembled an NBA all-star game with the Demons shooting nothing but 3s against the much taller Indians and Oskaloosa running up and down the floor like they were on the playground. The score after the 1st quarter was 21-9 and the rout was on.

The Indians would score 24 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 45-21 lead into halftime. Washington would play their best quarter of the game in the 3rd quarter as Oskaloosa only outscored them 14-13 for a 59-34 lead after 3 quarters. Oskaloosa had some fun in the 4th quarter throwing down some dunks and getting everyone into the game before winning 81-46.

As mentioned earlier Tucker continued his torrid shooting from 3-point land leading the Indians with 21 points. Three other Indians scored in double figures with Cole Henry and Xavier Foster each scoring 13 points. Senior Jack Moore was the other Indian in double figures with 12 points. Jarad Kruse added 9 points while Tanner DeKock scored 6 points. Andy Sterner had 3 points, J’Von Harris and Tucker Nunnikhoven each scored 2 points. Cole Henry led the Indians in rebounding with 10 boards to give him another double double for the night. Dalton Myers led Washington with 13 points and Mason Rich added 11 points.

The Indians now advance to the district final to face Knoxville on Thursday night in Oskaloosa. The two teams met early in the season with Oskaloosa winning in overtime. Oskaloosa improved to 14-8 on the season.
