#1 Ranked Indianola Rolls Past Oskaloosa Girls 69-33
by Doug DeKock
The Oskaloosa girl’s basketball team’s regular season came to an end on Friday when they lost to possibly the best team in the state 69-33.
The Indians played much better than their first game with Indianola scoring 33 points compared to only scoring 19 the first meeting. Indianola was without All-State player Maddie McGraw who was nursing a stress fracture in her foot. McGraw was expected to play the next night and Indianola will need her if they want to win a state championship.
Indianola held a 20-10 lead after one quarter and a 41-18 halftime lead. The Oskaloosa offense executed pretty well on Friday and if they play like they did Friday, a win over a young Bondurant team in the first round on Wednesday is likely.
Alexis Westercamp is winding down an excellent career playing for the Indians. She scored 22 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in the loss. The Indians are going to greatly miss Westercamp next year. Marleigh Denberger had a nice game also with 7 points and 6 rebounds. Summer Smith and Lindsey Holmberg each scored 2 points to round out the scoring. Grace Berg led Indianola with 30 points.
Oskaloosa ends the regular season at 2-19 overall and 0-14 in conference play. Indianola improved to 20-0 and won the Little Hawkeye Conference with an undefeated 14-0 record. Oskaloosa will host Bondurant Farrar at home on Wednesday in the first round of the district playoffs.
