Statesmen Defeat H-LG 38-12 in Final Dual of Season

Hannibal, Mo.–The William Penn wrestling team took advantage of a short-handed Hannibal-LaGrange squad to win 38-12 in dual-meet action Thursday.

Helped by three forfeit victories, WPU (3-6) won its last dual of the campaign easily.

John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) opened the evening with a forfeit at 125 pounds. 133-pounder Darquell Pierre (Fr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) then dropped Caleb McElfresh by a 14-6 major decision.

Fabian Rodriguez (So., Manassas, Va., Business Management) received another forfeit at 141 pounds, while Kionte Crocker (Jr., Brandon, Fla., Industrial Technology) capped the navy and gold’s tremendous start by slipping past Josh Nidever 8-7 at 149 pounds to make the score 19-0.

Austinn Goin (So., Belton, Mo., Exercise Science) collected the final forfeit at 165 pounds, while 174-pounds Jeremy Walters (Sr., University Park, Ill., Exercise Science) nipped Josh Culp 7-5 to lock up the dual win.

Nick Wise (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz., Exercise Science) beat Austin Hawes 19-11 for a 184-pound major decision, and Max Lewis concluded the meet with a fall in 5:25 over Konnor Braughton at 285 pounds.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Pella Saturday to compete in the Central Last Chance Tournament. Action begins at 9 a.m.
