Cabaret Performance Set At Indian Hills

OTTUMWA — A special fine arts performance is planned for Indian Hills Community College on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 3:00 p.m. in St. John Auditorium on the IIHCC Ottumwa campus. This is an annual collaboration between the college’s music and theatre departments featuring fun music and live theatre in a cabaret format. There is no charge for the performance.
Patrons will be treated to high energy pop music and Broadway standards performed by the Indian Hills Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, and the groups Tono Bella and the Do-Re-Migos, all under the direction of Dr. Janene Sheldon. Featured student soloists include Peyton Nelson (Ottumwa) with “I’m Not Afraid of Anything” from Songs for a New World, Steven Nash (Ottumwa) with “Love Sneaks In” from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Cecilia Mitchell (Grinnell) with “Your Daddy’s Son” from Ragtime.
Students of the current Acting II course, under the direction of Dr. Jennifer Boyenga, will be performing a reader’s theatre called Mr. Big, which takes the audience into a crime show full of stock characters to find God. Two student theatre directors are showcasing their winter projects in the Sunday Cabaret. Gannon Haile (Fairfield) is directing Nightswim by Julia Jordan and Breeann Young (Melcher) is directing Just be Frank by Caroline Williams. Dr. Ray Slavens is assisting the student directors with the technical elements of their productions and with the Cabaret performance.
The Indian Hills Jazz Band, under the direction of David Sharp, will close the Cabaret playing “Two Seconds of Midnight” by Alan Baylock and “Slammin’” by Greg Adams.
