Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa girls’ basketball team went into the week with hopes of going 3-0 on the week. They are now 0-2 for the week and hoping to salvage 1 win Saturday against Albia. Oskaloosa had defeated Norwalk at least once the previous 2 years but that streak ended Friday night as they lost 51-43. Norwalk was without their leading scorer Miranda Hughes and the Indians looked as though they might handle the Warriors jumping out to an 8-2 lead early in the game. Norwalk looked like they were lost until the last minute of the 1st quarter when they went into a man-to-man full court trap press. The Indians then turned the ball over 3 times that led to easy baskets and the quarter ended tied 8-8. The mini run helped Norwalk gain confidence playing without their leader as both teams played well in the second quarter offensively. Norwalk was able to go into half with a slim 21-19 lead. The 3rd quarter would be the beginning of the end for Osky. Norwalk’s speedy guard Shae Campbell started slicing through the Norwalk defense for assists to the post players while also knocking down 3-pointers on her way to 16 points in the game. Oskaloosa tried to keep it close but could only score 8 points in the quarter and would eventually trail by 9 at the quarter break 36-27. Norwalk would extend the lead to 14 early in the 4th quarter and the game was all but over. Oskaloosa would make a little run late but it was not enough as they lost 51-43.

Alexis Westercamp continued her stellar season leading the Indians with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Marleigh Denberger scored 9 points and pulled down 8 rebounds while Shallandra Shilling had 5 points and 6 rebounds. Katelyn Smith had one of her best games of the year with 5 points. Oskaloosa falls to 2-16 overall and 0-12 in the Little Hawkeye conference. Norwalk improves to 3-16 overall and 2-10 in the conference. Oskaloosa will be in action on Saturday at 6:15 pm against Albia.
