FFA Meets with State Legislators at Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium
On January 31st 6 members and the advisor of the Oskaloosa FFA Chapter went to Des Moines to take part in 2017 Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium. During the event, FFA members listened to speeches by Iowa Sec. of Agriculture Bill Northey, Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill, Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad; they learned how to interact with members of the house and senate; and the importance of having your voices heard.
The students first began the day at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates listening to speeches by Bill Northey (Iowa Sec. of Ag) and Craig Hill (IA Farm Bureau President) about the impact and importance of agriculture in Iowa. After that the Iowa State FFA Officer team worked with them on how to interact with their representatives. The officer team then headed to the capitol to meet with Senator Rozenboom and Representatives Vander Linden and Sheets. The students talked to the congressman about how the FFA and how Agricultural Education impacts their lives. After meeting with the congressman, the members went back to the Hall of Laureates to watch Gov. Branstad sign a proclamation for National FFA Week.
