William Penn Computer Club Joins Mission to Introduce Students to Computer Science

William Penn University

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but fewer than half of all schools teach computer science. Girls and minorities are severely underrepresented in computer science classes and in the tech industry. Good news is, we’re on our way to changing this.

With the Hour of Code, computer science has been on the homepages of Google, MSN, Yahoo! and Disney. Over 100 partners have joined together to support this movement. Every Apple Store in the world has hosted an Hour of Code. President Obama wrote his first line of code as part of the campaign.

You are invited to participate in the largest learning event in history: The 2016 Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 5 – 11). The Hour of Code, organized by the nonprofit Code.org and others, is a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st century success. William Penn University will host this event on Saturday, December 10, from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Musco Technology Center (MTC) Room 104, located at 319 R Avenue West in Oskaloosa. Guests are allowed to come and go, staying anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Please come and bring your children, grandchildren, parents, and neighbors (ages 4+ welcome) to join in for free. William Penn Computer Club members will be ready to assist as you go through your choice of activities involving Minecraft, Moana, music creation (headphones/earbuds suggested), and more. This is a chance to change the future of individuals in Oskaloosa and the United States.
