WPU Fine Arts Takes the Stage November 9, 10

(OSKALOOSA, Iowa) – The William Penn University Fine Arts Department will present fall Jazz and Choir concerts on November 9 and 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the Musco Technology Center on the Oskaloosa campus. These performances will feature student conductors, who are enrolled in the Conducting I course, as partial fulfillment of the music minor, major, and music education degrees. Music selections will range in styles from Baroque to spirituals to modern jazz. Ensembles are under the direction of Scott Cressley and Anita Meinert.

Jazz numbers will include a beautiful trumpet solo, “I Remember Clifford,” performed by Ashley Nimtz of Oskaloosa, and vocal soloist Mandy Nantz of Tipton performing “Mack the Knife.” Other ensemble pieces will be “You Made Me Love You,” “Blue Bossa,” “Lil’ Basie,” and for the modern listener, “Attitude Dance” and “Time Check.”

Chorale selections will be Orlando Lasso’s “Echo Song,” “All So Still,” “Blessing in the Leaving,” and a Moses Hogan arrangement of “Climbin’ Up the Mountain.” Student conductors will be Steve Residor, St. Louis, Missouri; Derek Robinson, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Audra Farley, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Joe Crisuolo from Pella, Iowa. These student conductors will also be conducting a concert band performance in December, along with Kala Keller, Thor, Iowa; Mandy Nantz, Tipton, Iowa; and Mallari Winegar, Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Admission to this event is free and it is open to the public.
