Osky Volleyball moves to regional finals
OSKALOOSA- After a dominating victory Tuesday evening, the Oskaloosa Indians have their eyes set on the regional final against #3 Marion. The Indians defeated the Mt. Pleasant Panthers in three sets; 25-14, 25-15, and 25-12. The win moved the Indians to 16-22 on the season.
“During the match, our focus shifted from beating Mount Pleasant, to playing our best ball. We challenged the girls to stay focused and play error-free volleyball, working on the things we need to still improve on,” said head coach Jennifer Comfort.
On the offensive side, Alexis Westercamp led the team with 13 kills and 21 attempts. As a team, the Indians saw 37 kills and 92 attempts. Leah VanMaanen led serving going 20 of 23 with eight aces. Defensively, the Indians saw 48 digs, with Leah VanMannen again leading the way with 12 digs.
“As always, our tough serving lead the way and our confident attackers put balls away. Our defense scrambled to pick-up shots, and as the passing improved as the match went on, Leah was able to get better sets to the hitters,” Comfort said. “It was a team win all the way around. I’m very proud of this group and the work they’ve put into this season to make it back to a Regional Final where anything can happen,” she also said.
Oskaloosa will face off against #3 Marion in the Class 4A regional final on October 31 at Marion. This will be Oskaloosa’s third trip to the regional final in the last five seasons. If Oskaloosa defeats Marion, they will head to the state tournament, for the first time since 2006.
