OSKALOOSA – According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics nearly 65 million Americans will be freelancers, temps and independent contractors by the year 2020. Stepping outside the comfort zone of being employed to build upon the dream of being a business owner cannot be easy. The Exchange for Entrepreneurs in Mahaska County has talked with several individuals who have or are preparing to do just that.

But how does one know when it’s time to make that leap of working for someone else to starting a business of your own?

Exchange member Rob Taylor will be presenting “Taking The Leap” to help answer that question. This special program, hosted by The Exchange, will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, and will be held in the meeting room at Smokey Row in downtown Oskaloosa.

“Taking the Leap” will post ten questions one should address before quitting a job to start a business. Taylor will also provide resources and suggestions that should help make the decision to leap a little easier. The program should conclude by 8 a.m. or shortly thereafter. However, Taylor will be available for additional Q&A following the program.

Taylor, who took a leap of his own after 21 years of being employed in electronic component manufacturing and marketing, joined Gleason-Taylor as a partner in 2014. He understands the daunting as well as the rewarding aspects of owning a business. Taylor has a BS Degree from Iowa State in Industrial Technology and has gained considerable experience in his consulting and partnership roles with Gleason-Taylor. He has been a member of The Exchange since its inception in 2015.

The Exchange’s mission provides “educational and interactive solutions for expanding knowledge, exploring resources, and elevating ideas” to entrepreneurs and individuals in Mahaska County who have started or are considering starting a business.
