For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community, Oskaloosa High School Student Council has been awarded a 2016 National Gold Council of Excellence Award by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC).

“Receiving a NASC National Gold Council of Excellence Award reflects the highest dedication on the part of the school to providing a strong, well-rounded student council program, “ said Ann Postlewaite, National Association of Secondary School Principals (NAASP) student programs director. “NASC applauds the work of the National Gold Councils of Excellence and challenges them to continue their leadership and service to their schools and communities.”

Ethan Farner, Student Council President, had this to say. “Time and time again, the OHS Student Council proves that it is one of the most dedicated student councils in the nation. You can travel across the whole state and you won’t find a group of students who are more passionate about helping their school and their community than what we have here at OHS. The amount of pride I feel can’t be put into words, and I know that they’ll continue to receive this award for decades, if not for centuries, after I graduate.”

Principal Stacy Bandy said, “The student council and Mrs. Gile and Mrs. Presley once again did an outstanding job in showcasing the type of leadership talent we have here at OHS.”

To meet the requirements for the NASC National Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, democratic election process, and membership in NASC, council demonstrate things such a s leadership training for council members, teacher/staff appreciation activities, student recognition programs, school and community service projects, spirit activities, goal setting, financial planning, and active participation instate an national student council associations.

Oskaloosa High School Student Council currently has 70 members and the advisors are Kim Gile and Dannitta Presley.
