Liberty, MO (New Sharon, IA) | Age 55
On the afternoon of October 26th, 2015, Nona Mae Houdesheldt, age 55, ran into the arms of Jesus after a life-long battle with diabetes and correlating health issues. She was surrounded by loved ones and being cared for at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO. Nona was born on August 26th, 1960 to Melvin and Ramona Mullennax in Tecumseh, NE.
Nona was the 3rd child in the Mullennax family, and grew up in the Colfax area. She attended Colfax High School and then worked at Iowa Power in Des Moines, IA and then transferred to Council Bluffs.
Nona married the love of her life and faithful husband, Virgil Neal Houdesheldt on August 3rd, 1985 and they lived in Honolulu, HI while he served 4 years in the United States Navy. They made many friends while serving in the military, who continued to be cherished throughout their lives. They moved to the New Sharon area after Virgil’s term of service ended. They had one daughter, Tiffany Houdesheldt, who was and is “their Joy”.
They attended the Union Mills Church for over 20 years and in 2012 their family moved to Liberty, MO, where they now reside. Nona filled her life with being a devoted wife, doting mother, and active church member. She spent many years blessing those around her with her cake decorating talents, generous heart, warm humor, and wise encouragement. No number of words could ever describe all that Nona was to those whose lives she touched as daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend.
Nona is survived by her husband, Virgil; daughter, Tiffany; parents, Melvin and Ramona Mullennax of Oskaloosa, Iowa; her siblings: Mona (& Jim) Van Zomeren of Oskaloosa, Mel (& Shari) Mullennax of Glenwood, and Doug (& Sharon) Mullennax of Glenwood; along with many adoring nieces and nephews.
