Margaret Ashman, 83, of Pella died Friday, October 23, 2015, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella. Margaret was born Monday, April 4, 1932, in Rose Hill, the daughter of Dow and Lois Walker.

Margaret graduated from Cedar Consolidated Schools with the class of 1949. On October 8, 1950, Margaret was united in marriage to Brice Ashman at the Cedar United Methodist Church in Cedar. Brice died May 1, 2010.

Margaret was a devoted mother and housewife, she also worked as a secretary at the Cedar grade school, and as a bookkeeper at the Fremont Bank.

Margaret was a member of the Cedar United Methodist Church in Cedar and the Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church in Des Moines.

She enjoyed traveling with Brice, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and playing cards with family.

Her family includes her two daughters: Pam (& Kelly) Ryan of Visalia, California and Jan (& Pat) Cruzen of Osage Beach, Missouri; two sons: Collin (& Peggy) Ashman of Pella and Rodney (& Colleen) Ashman of Eddyville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister: Donna (& Jim) Carr of Winter Haven, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Brice Ashman; her parents; a daughter, Denise Farmer; a great grandson, Andrew Lindsay Farmer; two sisters, Rhoda Moore and Rose Nicholson; and two brothers, Karl and Keith Walker.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 at 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Sheldon Starkenburg officiating.
Burial will be Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery south of Fremont.
Visitation will begin Sunday, October 25, 2015 after 10 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 1 – 3 P.M. Sunday to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar United Methodist Church or the Hospice Comfort House in Pella.
