Beulah Bunting, 101, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, October 22, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Beulah was born October 10, 1914, in Rose Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Warren and Hattie Sheely Gatton.

Beulah graduated from Rose Hill High School with the class of 1932. On January 9, 1936, she was united in marriage to Dwight Bunting in Des Moines. Dwight died February 20, 2005.

Following their marriage they began farming near Rose Hill, with a team of horses her parents gave them as a wedding gift. In 1951, they bought a farm near Sigourney, where they lived and farmed side by side.

In 1975, they retired and moved to Oskaloosa. In retirement, Beulah worked for the Red Cross, she would often joke that she received her first official “paycheck” in retirement from the Red Cross. She also volunteered in the Snack Bar at the Hospital for over 25 years.

Early on she was a member of the Indianapolis Christian Church, then Sigourney Christian Church, and when they moved to Oskaloosa they transferred their membership to First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. She was an active member of her churches serving as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and involved in various ladies groups.

Beulah served on the Mahaska Red Cross Board. She was a member of the Mahaska Historical Society and T.T.T. She enjoyed gardening, reading, embroidery and crocheting. She and Dwight enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico. She delighted in spending time with her family.

Her family includes her son and his wife, Duane and Kay Bunting of Dousman, Wisconsin; three grandchildren: David (& Robin) Bunting, Kent (& Julie) Bunting, and Minda (& Brad) Decker; five great grandchildren: John, Jared, Bryce, Jamie, and Shannon; four great great grandchildren: Alexis, Brianna, Cullen, and Julius; a brother and his wife, Robert (& Donna) Gatton of Oskaloosa; a sister and her husband, Bernece (& Ken) Hammer of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Beulah was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and his wife, Kelly and Buelah Gatton; and a nephew, Gary Gatton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Andrea Brownlee officiating.
Burial will be in the Union Mills Cemetery near New Sharon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or MHP Hospice Serenity House.
