Oskaloosa FFA Competes at the Osceola CDE Day

On September 22 the Oskaloosa FFA took a school bus of students to Osceola, Iowa for a CDE(Career Development Event) day. There was a total of 3 teams of Novice Livestock Judging. These teams include Johnathan Veenstra, Tim Degroot, Colten Orndorff, Michael Vanderhyde,,Stephen Terrell, Brayden Wald, and Seth VanderEken. They evaluated Sheep, Beef Cattle, Swine, and Goats for breeding and market characteristics. The team of Novice Horse Judging, made of Emily Lanphier, Leah Rice, and Tyler Hynick evaluated halter and performance classes of horses. This means they evaluated horses on the physical makeup as well as their ability to perform Western Pleasure, Reining, and Walk Trot. Competing in the Dairy Foods CDE were Justin Higdon, Peyton Crouse, Shelton Simmons, and Jaden Gillespie. In Dairy Foods they had to ID different Cheeses, Milk Quality issues, as well as a team activity. Annie Poush and Alexis Consunji competed in the Vet Science Competition in which they had to identify different Vet Med tools and equipment, complete a test, identify the internal parts of a pig, and complete different tasks a Vet would perform. Annie was the Overall winner in the Vet Science CDE. The Oskaloosa FFA is very proud of all the teams that competed and hopes to see more people next year.
