Oskaloosa, Iowa – Mahaska County first responders rushed to the scene of a two vehicle accident at 310th Street and Merino Ave. Sunday night.

The call for help was placed around 6:30 pm.

A maroon GMC pickup truck, driven by Eric David Hansen, age 24, was driving northbound on Merino Ave. when, according to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, he failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

A white Dodge truck driven by Scotty Lee Van Polen, traveling east on 310th Street, then struck the GMC pickup truck broadside in the drivers door. The driver, Eric Hansen, and the passenger, Megan Marie Moser, of the maroon GMC truck, we’re both killed in the collision.

The vehicles exited the roadway and entered the ditch on the northeast corner of the intersection. The maroon GMC overturned onto its roof, where it came to rest facing west. The white Dodge truck came to rest against the passenger door of the overturned GMC.

The Iowa State Patrol said the occupants of the white Dodge truck, Scotty Lee Van Polen and John Curtis Van Polen both complained of pain and were sent to Mahaska County Hospital.

Everyone involved in the accident was wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The Iowa Sate Patrol, Oskaloosa Fire Department, Eddyville Fire Department, Mahaska County Sheriffs Office and Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services all responded.
