Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Area Chamber & Development Group held its 134th Annual Banquet on Thursday night.

The annual banquet gives individuals in the business community an opportunity to visit with one another. Social gatherings are something many small business owners have little of, a chance to mingle with other business owners.

This year was once again emcee’d by Jeff Akers. He played auctioneer as well, selling deserts in order to help raise funds to go towards tourism in Oskaloosa.

This past year, the OACDG has hired Valinn McReynolds as the new Executive Director. They have celebrated the opening of 65 new businesses in the Mahaska County area by holding ribbon cuttings at those locations. The team also worked with Roger Brooks on developing a branding plan for the Oskaloosa area, and held the first ever Main Street Masquerade.

This past year has also seen the rise of Mahaska Young Professionals. The group has re-established itself as a way for young professionals to engage and improve the community, while also having the opportunity to network.
