Eddyville, Iowa – The road to state for high school wrestlers began Saturday at 16 sectional sites across Iowa. Defending class 1A State Champion Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets hosted Sectional 8 and crowned 5 champions while advancing a total of 9 to next week’s District match up in Pleasantville. Sigourney-Keota nearly matched the Rockets performance and gave the Rockets a tight match crowning 6 champions and advancing 8 to the next round. In addition to individual results, total team points were also close as the Rockets ended the 8 team tournament only 1.5 points ahead of Savage Cobras. This is extremely close when you consider the two teams scored a combined 461 points.

Missing from the E-B-F roster was last year’s 1A state champion at 145, Blake Marloff. This opened up weight class 145 for a brand new challenger. Sigourney-Keota’s Nathan Fritz took the championship at 145 advancing to districts with a 41-1 record. Future Iowa Hawkeye and 2014 Class 1A state champ Jeren Glosser (SR-Eddyville) at 138 kept his record unbeaten at 48-0 with 3 pins on the day.

Speaking to KIIC, Rockets head coach Brett Little says “we have had some adversity the past month, but these kids are peaking at the right time and no one should count us out”

KIIC will have all the district action next Saturday live from Pleasantville beginning at 11am on 96.7 FM.
