Oskaloosa, Iowa – A public hearing was held at Monday mornings Mahaska County Supervisor meeting for the updated design/bid documents to rebid the project of the clay tile roof repairs and improvements on the Mahaska County Courthouse.

No members of the public were on hand to make comment, nor were any comments received in writing before Monday’s meeting.

The scope of the services will include the following:

Revised plans include removal of existing tile and replacement of blown off tile on the majority of the west slope of the roof and other areas where tile blow-off has occurred.

The scope of the work is to include the removal of existing tile and the reinstallation with the use of screws. Alternate bids for installation of hurricane clips and snow guards to be provided.

The Mahaska County Supervisors hope to have bids received by February 2, 2015 on the revised bid/design documents for the roof repair.

The damage to the roof occurred on April 27th, 2014 during a violent thunderstorm that produced straight-line winds of approximately 80 miles-per-hour.

In other discussion, the board heard from Deann De Groot, who spoke about the MCARD Board and its work with the Rodger Brooks assessment team and committees.

The revolving loan was passed in the amount of $100,000 for New Sharon based RP Support America, a company that specializes in servicing the 3D printing industry. They currently employ 5 individuals and plan to add an additional 3 by the end of 2015. This loan will allow the upstart company to also build a new building.

Also approved was a motion to purchase and install a projector in the conference room on the 3rd floor where the supervisors hold their meetings. This room is used for multiple purposes, such as training for precinct workers, and tax levy sales.
