LOCAL CHAMPIONS CROWNED IN ELKS HOOP SHOOT COMPETITION
OSKALOOSA — Three boys and three girls, ages 8 to 13, won the first round of competition in the Elks Hoops Shoot free throw contest sponsored by Oskaloosa Elks Lodge 340 at Oskaloosa High School on Saturday, Jan. 3. First and second place trophies were awarded to one boy and one girl in each of the three categories: ages 8 to 9; 10 to 11; and 12 to 13.
Winners were:
Boys ages 8-9: 1st place, Maddux Asham, Oskaloosa; 2nd place, Karson Weber, Sigourney;
Girls ages 8-9: 1st place, Colby Sampson, North Mahaska; 2nd place (TIE), Kassie Johnson, Oskaloosa, and Lana Thomas, Sigourney.
Boys ages 10-11: 1st place, Bo Schmidt, Sigourney; 2nd place, Logan Hoskinson, Oskaloosa;
Girles ages 10-11: 1st place, Aubree Blanco, Oskaloosa; 2nd place (TIE), Emma Witzenberg, Sigourney, and Breanna Fogle, Tri-County;
Boys ages 12-13: 1st place, Nicholas Pfalzgraf, Oskaloosa Christian; 2nd place, Josh Moore, Sigourney;
Girls ages 12-13: 1st place, Sidney Morse, Sigourney; 2nd place, Lily Schmidt, Sigourney.
First place winners now advance to the district competition to be held at William Penn University on Saturday, Jan. 17, where they will compete with other winners from throughout Southeast Iowa.
